Corset Introductory

A corset is a piece of clothing close fitting that cinches the waist extremely tight while pushing the bust out and up to shape a woman's torso. Corsets were very unhealthy, causing fainting of women and internal damage due to the realignment of vital organs. Corsets can be made of rubber, steel, fabric, and whale bones. Corsets have been around since the 16th century, but were known as Stays or "a pair of bodies". Stays or "a pair of bodies" grew out of a stiffened bodice used in women's gowns in the 16th century either as part of the gown or a separate item. In modern times, the corset is made more comfortably and as an individual garment as well as an undergarment(what it was mainly known as from the beginning).
